Husky Voice
Itβs all started 25 years ago, when life was much simpler, when everything was done manually, when radio telecommunications was way cooler than using a mobile phone.Β How is this related to husky voice? Itβs not actually. Iβm just saying that itβs cool, and yes, it has got to do with why I took that Amateur Radio exam, which I pass of course, which lead me to my licensed transceiver. Thatβs transmitter and receiver rolled in one.
Back to history, 1986, in Primary School, a year before that βBig Cover-Upβ story, I was introduced to marching. Not and ordinary marching, itβs a marching band. Yes people, I was in my school marching band, back when SK Tanjung Aru is just one school, and today itβs known as SK Tanjung Aru 1. Just because of some petty βjealousyβ thingy you want to split that school in two? Tsk tsk tsk. Anyway, that was the first time I had a taste of marching. All I need to do is to remember what music to play, marched in-group, following our Drum Majorβs staff. Seeing them throwing and catching the staff was awesome. OK I forgot whatβs the staff called, itβs been 25 years already. What instrument did I play? I played the trumpet. Being in a band was effin fun!
Come Secondary School era. The only school that have school band was the ones that has Chinese name on them. I was pretty sad at that time. No matter where I go, I canβt play music anymore. I do however have a backup plan, which is to join Red Crescent, because of two things; they have first-aid course and marching. Thatβs about it. But I joined St. Johns Ambulance instead, because of three things. This might sound silly but the one reason that won me over was, I had a crush with someone and sheβs in it. Eventually I was really active there, doing first aid voluntary work. Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam? Pffthh!!! Back then, we rule! We have back-up from Yayasan Sabahβs Paramedic. The marching, a lot of yelling and pumping and running 5 laps if you did wrong. Everytime thereβs an event, be it School Sports Day, Independent Day, TYTβs Day, whatever it is, you can bet I will be there marching.
I did found out that a few years after that, SBPS back then, SMSS known today, have form their own Marching Band and they were asking me to enrole im their school so I could play with them. The things is, half of us from SK Tanjung Aru went to Sabah College, where I went, and half of us went to, you guess it, SBPS, so those who we previously in the Marching Band was the one who thought of me to join them. I respectively decline because I donβt want to start over in a new school, so I stayed. It was the same year that I had a taste of giving a command, the first time they know I have an extremely loud voice, the time I had the taste of a husky voice. Those were the days, I was only 5β4β (I think), but I have a loud voice.
OK fast forward to the current year, this year, I once again had a taste of a husky voice. For 1 week I canβt talk properly because?
We were asked; more like forced, to represent my organization to march. I guess we did well, even though we were told last minute, having to only train for three days, but we did good. Lost my normal voice for almost a week but I think itβs worth it. I think Independent Day or Malaysia Day will be my annual event. Of course in the previous year I only escorted marching contingent, doing Silat Demo, maybe next year Iβll join Kota Kinabalu Cycling Club.
I’m a bit on the patriotic side. Despite of what’s happening in our country, compared to what’s happenning out there, we are trully blessed. Happy Malaysia Day to you all. π
Update 19 September 2011: Added video from SEDIA Multimedia Unit π
What an intro hehehe. Too bad no one took a video of you demonstrating that husky voice π (Btw, I’m glad I can make comments now. Been having trouble in the last few posts)
I thought nobody took video of us marching, but somebody from my office did take a short video. Updated it just now. But it’s my yelling voice, not my husky voice.
Yeah, I’ve been having problem figuring out what’s wrong with my comment section. Seems like it fixed itself.
