6th Sabah International Folklore Festival
I think the last time I attended such event was way back when blogging is still something alien to me, heck I don’t even have a proper camera back then. It was 2002 I think, yes it was a very long time ago. And yes, this is what I deemed as a bangas post. Anyway, the 6th Sabah International Folklore Festival or #SIFF on Twitter; not to be mistaken as Seattle International Film Festival which was on the same night, was held from 17th till 26th July 2011, and I went for the 25th event.
I arrived at Sabah Cultural Centre at about 7:30pm after a quick stop for Sundae cone and Apple pie, Sundae cone for my girlfriend and Apple pie for yours truly. I was hopping to arrive there at 7:00pm because I don’t want to park far. Luckily there was ample parking when we arrived. Went to get the RM30 tickets then heading off to the stalls that I first noticed earlier. The following photos are from that night event. I didn’t go for the rest though.
Had a quick dinner from this stall.
There are also few other stalls there, selling foods and handicraft, naturally.
I am tempted to put Batman’s logo on the searchlight that night. Or maybe mine, then there would be another story of my misadventure.
For the first time ever SIFF Mascot. I don’t know about you but if I were a kid, this would be a nightmare. Seriously.
If you getting the RM30 ticket, you’ll be getting these seats from above.
And if you get the RM50 ones, you’ll be getting these seats. Oh hi Chegu Carol, hi Alvin. Yes, they have the best seats that night.
While waiting for the show to start, I attempt the impossible, supposedly trying the famous “taking photo from above angle so you would look super cute” pose. Maybe I should have use peace sign over one of my eyes or over my lips. Somebody need to blog why them Generation Z likes to take this angle, seriously. Any takers?
As like previous years, these are the guys; one row at the back, which are the tech support for SIFF marking system. Oh hi there Josie & Kim.
Some moping activity before the competition starts by dancer from Lembaga Kebudayaan Negeri Sabah. Hehehe. They started the show first.
These are dancers from Johor, representing Malaysia. We are not competing that night because we can easily win this. That’s what the MC said, not me.
The flag thrower from Belgium. It was spectacular.
The “WOW” dancer from Chine, because of their costume that night.
The ladies from Estonia.
The dancer from Singapore, almost the same as Johor’s traditional dance, because they are neighbour after all.
The dancer from Taiwan was mesmerizing. I’m sure they’ll be the winner this year. I was told they won last year.
Dancers or should I say drummers from South Korea.
From India, makes you want to go running around like the ones in Hindi or Tamil movies, except for the part that you could jump backward.
You would be surprise that these dancers are from Thailand, but the music they used resemble our Ikan Kekek.
The havoc group from Namibia.
Chucky’s cousins came over just to prove to everyone that they could wrestle. It’s a one man show from Turkey. Underneath those dolls is just one man. Interesting.
Dancing on a moving plank? Not my cup of tea. But these dancers from Philippines can dance even when they are moved all around.
Dancers from Indonesia.
The judges who are busy not looking at their Facebook account tehehehe.
I hope she’s not dizzy after that spinning around. The dancers from Egypt.
The cute dancers from Slovakia.
From Russia.
I saw an apparition.
Then it was gone.
Hahaha, the apparition is actually dancers from Kazakhstan.
Should have taken the RM50 seats. Next year, probably.
Yes, we did get a very ngam seats. We didnt bring camera this 1st night…just my iphone utk record video..but u know how short its battery life is kan? The next night we went again and got the same spot. Enjoyed every bit of the event.
I rooted for Taiwan as well since China wasn’t really performing well on 1st night. The 2nd night China gave its best-showing both soft and strong elements in their dance routine.
Thailand disappointed me the first night. Who are they kidding? When did Portuguese have influences on Thailand? Or was I wrong? Jingling Nona? Ha!
An annual event not to miss out next year.
As far as i remember, Thailand was never ruled by other nation. But it could be influence from Northern Malay Peninsular.
I’m like already “WTH-ing” bout the apparition @.@ hahahaa~
I’m not that “lucky” enough to actually caught it on camera. But my girlfriend did, still trying to get the actual photo for further analysis.
I love your detailed description la Pai.. Hehehe…Yg tu China dancers punya la sexy! And the Thailand punya costume really looks like Kebaya kan? And the SIFF mascot. OMG. That IS a nightmare. And why do they need more than 1 person as a mascot? Anyway, all in all, a very interesting entry! I’ll surely go for the next one 🙂
I think Thailand is wearing Kebaya. Makes me wonder if they are from Southern part of Thailand.
The Mascot looked OK on printed form, but horrible when it comes to life. Can pass local version of “It” horror movie.
Dude, that picture you tried to take from that kind of angle is cool… nice ni, ngam dengan muka ko.
Btw, that apparition is kinda scary… 😛
I’ll be taking more from that angle from now on HAHAHA.
The Kazakstan costume and lighting make that apparition possible. Thank you LKNS.
I was impressed by the girls from egypt… just because it was ‘crazy’… like they were in atrance or sumthing. Doubt I’ll be able to do that head spinning without being dizzy.
There I was, thinking they weren’t gonna let loose their hair… then they did and wheeeee wheeee wheeee~~~ I got dizzy just looking at them =P
If I do that, I need to counter spin to counter dizzyness.
