The gadget in me
I am a computer geek. It’s no brainer since those who are really close to me know that I spend most of my time in front of a computer, up to a point that I; without having any paper qualification, could troubleshoot a computer problem. The downside to that, everybody would surely ask to troubleshoot their computer problem. It’s a very time-consuming task I tell you. I also know and run a few Operating System, as a hobby, I mean, you’re not really a computer geek if you use just one OS no? You have to know a few to really understand how hacking works. OK, enough about that.
I am also gadget freak geek enthusiast, yes I am. It show from the myriad of gadget that I own at he moment. It all started from Palm m130. Back then, mobile phone was still dumb, seriously. But with a Palm, its Smart. And that was the start of my gadget journey. Not long after that, a friend of mine gave me Sony Clié as a gift. Then mobile phone get a little bit smarter but still not as smart as a PDA, maybe because it’s hard to do work merely using a keypad. Then I got myself a Nokia E71. Now that’s a smart phone. It’s a phone and PDA combined as one. At that time it does feels like I have a very cool phone, not until I own an iPhone when I ditch the idea that Nokia have the best phone. Nokia is no more number one in my heart. I have to tell you that I am a Nokia user since 2000, and still using it today. No more am I relying it as a smart phone. It’s in fact the dumbest phone among smart phones. Note that frustration? It’s real, oh so very real. It’s all started from Nokia 6600, then the slow N70, and the always “all of the sudden restarting” C6. And why am I still using one? For merely making call and SMS because when you turn off all the internet capability, the battery could last for days. So there you go.
OK I’m not finished. My family of gadgets have gain a few new family member. First off, it’s a radio transceiver. Say what? Yes, a radio transceiver. Here I show it to you.
Did I ever mentioned that I took the Radio Amateur Examination last year? Well I did and I passed the exam, registered my call sign, 9W6PAI; that’s nine whiskey six papa alpha india, and I’ve acquired my very first transceiver radio last week. Well actually this is the second one if you count a pair of normal Motorola Walkie Talkie, which I use for normal stuff like car convoy, traveling and stuff. It’s very short range and it’s not for Amateur Radio use. If you’re asking how does this fit in the gadget category? Well, it does actually contain electronic parts, just that it’s not that smart. Then you might ask why in the hell would I want to have this when we already have more sophisticated modern telecommunication? Well, during zombie outbreak, the only mode of mobile communication is a normal radio. It’s back to basic people, back to basic. Yeah, I watched and played to many Zombie related stuff. But seriously, in time of emergency, radio is the best form of communication. I’m not saying that we are heading to a certain disaster or something, 2012 is around the corner, I mean if it does happen I’m not even chosen to be in one of the Ark, but it is the quickest way of conveying emergency message. It has also got to do with my childhood dream and something that happen 2 years back. So there you go, a new hobby.
The photo quality is terrible don’t you think? You would expect me to post a clear photo with my new watermark didn’t you? Well, the next gadget was not meant to take photo, although the video quality is the same my digital camera, but still, I would prefer to use my phone or better my camera to take good photo, less on this. I’m talking about…
my iPad 2, with personal engraving. Got it a few days earlier than my radio. I’m loving every minutes of it. Heck, I even type this post using it. Never done that before, tried to do it on Timah but back then, WordPress for iOS was lacking some features. It’s a better excuse than saying the screen on Timah is small and I keep on having a lot of typos with it, which is also true. Anyway, if you are wondering what I named it, I named her iMinah. Get it? iMinah as in Aminah. Inspired by my ex-classmate who named hers iVan last year, soon after iPad was launched. And yes, I’ve already performed a test sacred ritual with it, I’ve licked the screen surface, because I’m cool like that.
😀
I’m so jealous of you! Haha. I’m a Nokia user since 2005, then I went for Motorola, stupid CSL, Sony Ericsson, and back with Nokia until now. I do want to taste the sweet of iPhone. And iPad also. I’ve been using HP for ages..huhu
ask any ye shall receive hahaha. it’s power of the universe bah
