Like giving up on sex!
Have you ever had a problem when you woke up early in the morning but still end up in getting to work late? Never mind to those night owls, I’m an early bird person, waking up early is something natural to me. I even woke up early on Sunday! But I still end up rushing to work late everyday. Found an interesting article last year about upgrading your morning routine so you could be more productive, and being a new year and all, republish again this year and I thought I’d share it together with what I did with mine.
Mornings are for Thinking
I find that this is true. Often time, I manage to come up with solution, ideas, and revelation, just about everything in the morning. So what I’m trying to do now is to write it down so I would remember about it later. I have a problem forgetting what I was thinking about so I normally carry around with me my small notebook. Nowadays, I just use Evernote on my phone and computer because it updates my ideas on both devices. Cool eh? And yes, the “little head” is also fresh at this time of the day. Don’t get funny ideas!
Tracking Morning Habits
I found my wildcard here. It’s reading email and blog. I normally receive pretty interesting emails, and I usually end up doing web search to quench my hunger for more info. The same goes with reading blog. So yeah, this year I’ll try to read them on a different time of the day.
Kids on my Itinerary?
OK I don’t have any children of my own yet so I could skip this one for the time being. But I guess this one is on every parent’s itinerary.
Eat for Better Sleep
I don’t know about you guys but if I’m full, I’ll definitely feel sleepy afterward. I seldom have supper actually. I read somewhere that your body stop processing food for energy at night and the access energy are stored as fats. If I don’t have a high metabolic rate, I could be huge by now by just having supper.
Important task over email
Like I said before, reading email in the morning is a no no now. I prefer reading it when I’m in the office. Besides, if it’s work related, then it should be read at work no?
Smaller cup instead of Grande’
This one I’m to sure. I don’t really have big breakfast in the morning, never do. But I do drink coffee all the time. What I’m trying now is having coffee & biscuits in the morning, and small thermos to work with my brew. I like the taste of my brew.
Wake up without any Caffeine?
OK this one I’m not following. There’s no way I’m giving up my daily dosses of coffee. It’s like giving up sex. NO WAY!
Setting up reminder the night before
I’ve started with this one last week and it seems to be working for me. I just need the discipline to not to hit the snooze. On second thought, snooze is OK; switching it off is a no no. So now I have 5 alarm preset on my phone from preparing for work the night before to sleep time to “Get you flat arse to work NOW!” Some time you need to be creative to yourself. Heh!
Exercise!
OK I can honestly say I failed at this. But still I’m willing to do a few push-ups every morning. No muscle on me? That’s pretty much give you idea how much I could do :/
What’s your peak time?
There are two types of person, which are the “early birds” and the “night owls”. I’m the first one, which suggest that my strength remain constant throughout the day. Lucky me! Night owls however have peak performance in the evening, about 9 p.m. hence why they are active at night. This is based on research done at University of Alberta in Canada. So I guess night owls out there would be better off doing serious thinking later at night.
Of course these might not work for all of you, you might want to adjust a few thing to suit your life. You can read the original article here.
Yes, checking email and whatnot in the morning when im supposed to get ready for work was the reason why ive always had to rush to work. Not anymore as I now limit myself to just read but not replying. Actually the best thing is to not go online at all but reading emails or blog first in the morning somehow help boost up my mood and energy (besides the coffee).
hahaha still a no no. but i change that with reading books. a few minutes will do. reading Rich Dad Poor Dad now HAHAHA
