Brunei anyone?

Last week my boss called us engineers up to one of the director’s room to have a short discussion. It was about the current economy situation which has affected by current US market. There are a lot of us engineers (I counted about more than 10 of us in that room) and there’s not much new project here in Sabah. But the company branch over in Brunei has a lot of project in hand but they are short of engineer. Who would want to volunteer? There would be a salary increase, allowance, house and car provided. Any takers?

I must admit it did spark some interest in me. Salary increase is a good incentive, plus I’d be paid in Brunei currency. Would that be enough? Should I say yes to this, I would have to stay there for a minimum of 3 years. There must be more than what was promised to us? So begin my quest to satisfy my curiosity.

My first question is what’s the internet like over in Brunei? Are there any restrictions like my friend who work over in Dubai? Friendster was blocked there in Dubai. OMG! I need my Friendster and Facebook. And I also need to update my new blog, which I have put a lot of time tweaking it. Turns out there are none, no restriction at all. I guess I’m addicted to the internet hehehe. According to my friend, the 3G network over there is cheaper than what we have here in Malaysia. Kewl, internet access 24-7. The next question I asked is if I can go mountain biking over there. Turn out there is a place for mountain biker to go downhill, somewhere at Kampung Tungku. I google it and found someone who was blogging about it. SWEET!!! I’m beginning to like that place. What about my Silat classes over at SMK Majakir, well, someone have to take care of it for me. I’m going to miss that class. I’m going to miss my treasure hunting too…

Yes I should have asked something else like how’s the cost of living over there. Well the cost of living over there is cheaper than over here in KK, so I could save a lot or buy a lot, which ever I want to have it. There’s not much work stress according to my colleague. The quality of life is also good, being a rich country and all. Overall, Brunei is a comfortable place to work and stay; that I have to find out for myself should I decide to stay there. But I have to get used to a different weekday. Work start on Sunday till Thursday, weekends on Friday and Saturday; just like in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah (correct me if I’m wrong). What else did I left out?

if i’m not mistaken some offices are not working on Sat & Sun but some just like what Jennifer said. Maybe govt & corporate companies have different off days. I’ve been there for 3 weeks (part-time job in Nurul Iman) and all I could say if you love night life and booze, it’s not the right place for you hehehe.. But ya, boleh jimat duit. Cost of living not that high, food pun okay juga.

Whereabout is the company branch? BSB? KB?
